This module focus tools & methods for sustainable production (development, operation and assessment)

This module gives an overview on Production Systems from a sustainability and life cycle perspective. It aims to provide nuanced views of the opportunities and challenges on development, operations and evaluation of sustainable production systems and production processes. The module includes managerial, technical and procedural aspects on different phases in the life cycle of production systems.

More specifically, the module aims to provide participants the understanding of sustainability effects from the increasing digitization in production systems, with the stakeholders, roles, practice and future development. It relies on three key aspects of Sustainable Production Systems: Development, Operations and Evaluation & assessment.

Learning objectives

Describe and give examples to environmental aspects and UN’s SDGs that are most relevant to address from a sustainable production perspective, and give examples on appropriate actions.

Apply and show how environmental aspects can be incorporated during production development and describe appropriate methods and tools.

Apply and show how environmental improvement actions can be incorporated in production operations and its continuous improvement activities.

Apply and show how environmental aspects can be assessed and incorporated in cost and performance evaluation of production systems and describe appropriate methods and tools.

Module structure

The learning module is a mixture of self-study, webinars, and cross-company exercises. A common case on operations, development and evaluation of sustainable production will be used throughout the module. Expect videos, exercises, reflections that you share with other participants, forums for cross-participant discussions, and much more.

Targeted participants

  • Industrial practitioners with a role in development and management of production systems, and who share an interest in learning how their company and production system can become more sustainable.
